Less than 24 hours before this photo was taken we were standing at the head of the lake, beside our loaded canoe, in the pouring rain. It was really pouring. Hard.
As excited as we were, planning this trip for weeks, it seemed Mother Nature had her own plans.
We stood there contemplating whether or not we should just go home. We'd be dry. We'd be warm. We'd be safe.
But we were there. We were packed and prepared, and we were hungry for an adventure. So, as soon as there was a pause in the downpour, we went for it.
We spent the night trying to stay warm and dry. Looking out into the stormy waters (the rain coming down so hard it was starting to puddle around our tent), we couldn't help but second guess our decision.
But when the morning came, the rain finally stopped. The lake was calm, like glass. And the sun came out. It stayed like that for the next four days.
Beyond the unexpected perfect canoeing conditions, in those few days exploring this lake, we had the time of our lives. Made memories that will live in our hearts forever.
For me, it was a perfect reminder that the magic always happens when I step outside of my comfort zone first.
